Different Types And Components For Bongs Or Glass Water Pipes

A bong is the most popular smoking device among all types of glass water pipes. It has been used for years to smoke marijuana. It is called by different names in different countries around the world. The word bong comes from the Thai word ‘baung’. It refers to a cylindrical pipe or tube that is made of wood or bamboo. This type of tube contained water and was used for smoking. Thus, the cylindrical tube that contains water and is used for smoking weed is called a bong. However, the shape of a bong has changed over the years.

Some glass water pipes look like straight tubes similar to the bongs of yesteryears. However, some bongs have round bases and some look like a beaker. Beaker shaped bongs are more stable than the bongs with a tubular body or round base. Modern bongs are fitted with different types of components to produce smoother drags. The bowl, chamber, neck, stem and mouthpiece are the main parts of a water-pipe. The bowl is used to pack weed. The stem connects the bowl to the chamber which holds the water. The stem enters the chamber through an opening. The part of the stem that remains diffused in the water is also known as the diffused downstem. The smoke of burnt cannabis moves through the stem and reaches the chamber of water.

Impurities becomes filtered out of the smoke to some extent, and it becomes cooler after passing through the water. Therefore, the smoke produced by glass water pipes does not irritate the throat similar to the smoke produced by dry smoking pipes. The extended part of a bong is called a neck. The smoke passes through the neck before reaching the mouthpiece. This is the topmost part of a bong where a user places their mouth to take a drag. These are the basic parts which are found in all types of bongs.

Some of these glass water pipes are fitted with percolators for additional filtration of the smoke. Percolators do not just remove additional impurities or makes the smoke cooler. It enables a user to take larger drags since bongs fitted with percolators can produce more smoke. Some bongs have ice catchers. They are pinched formations on the glass. They remain between the chamber of water and the mouthpiece. They are used to hold small pieces of ice. They make the smoke cooler when it passes over the ice catcher after passing through the water.

It is essential to look for these basic and additional features when selecting glass water pipes for your use. It is equally important to ask about the thickness of the glass if you purchase a bong that is made of glass. Bongs made of borosilicate glass may last for many years.
